About Master of Arts - Translation and Interpreting (Extended)
The Extended MA in Translation and Interpreting (MATI) is a specialized variant of Swansea's Professional Translation course, focusing on interpreting skills. It aims to transform students from proficient foreign language speakers into successful professional linguists.
Students will engage in advanced translation studies, covering general, administrative, and technical text types, as well as interpreting in specific fields such as local government, health, police, and court settings. They will also receive training in industry-standard computer-assisted translation tools.
During the first part of the program, students have the opportunity to specialize in various areas such as interpreting, audiovisual translation, machine translation, software localization, terminology management, video production, or digital publishing.
In the translation work experience module, students will gain practical experience by collaborating with local translation businesses and completing real-life translation projects to professional standards.
In the second part of the program, students can choose between two extended translations, an academic dissertation, or a 13-week internship at a translation company in the UK or abroad.
