About Master of Arts - Curation

The MA Curating degree course is a program that combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, offering students the opportunity to explore the world of contemporary curating. The course, taught at UCA Canterbury, is situated within a culture and environment that promotes curatorial opportunities.

This course aims to provide students with comprehensive professional experiences and real-world opportunities. Students will develop a versatile skill set in critical discourse, analytical thinking, creative exploration, and contextual study. These skills will be applied in various aspects of exhibition planning, presentation, installation, documentation, archiving, interpretation, and project management. Students will have the chance to engage directly with a diverse art community, including blue chip galleries, art fairs, festivals, and regional arts organizations. Mentors, who are active and influential practitioners in their respective fields, will support and guide students throughout their journey.

The program goes beyond mere knowledge acquisition. It offers an immersive environment that encourages innovative thinking and broad perspectives. By preparing students for a dynamic career in the art world, the course equips them to become leaders in shaping the future of contemporary art curation.

Students will benefit from UCA's thriving gallery program, which spans multiple sites and networks. The program also has connections to emerging art scenes in South East coastal regions such as Margate, Dover, Whitstable, Folkestone, and Hastings. Additionally, UCA has partnerships with arts organizations across Surrey, Kent, and London. Furthermore, the course's affiliations with world-class institutions like the British Centre for Photography, Tate, and the National Portrait Gallery, along with UCA's global presence, provide a unique platform for global arts engagement.
