About Master of Arts - Visual Communication

The MA Visual Communication degree at UCA Canterbury aims to cultivate individuals who can become cultural innovators capable of utilizing student work to entertain, inform, and persuade. The course explores various mediums, such as print, motion, and digital, to effectively convey messages and meaning. Students are encouraged to develop new skills that will enhance and inform their design practice.

The program emphasizes the role of design as an agent of change, promoting positive transformations in behavior through desirable and sustainable strategies. Collaboration with other members of the creative community is encouraged, allowing students to strengthen their work and become leaders in the field of visual communication. This field encompasses print media, user experience, motion design, web design, exhibition design, and advertising.

The MA Visual Communication program is designed to help students develop their identity as authors and innovators. It equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to identify and solve design problems in cross-disciplinary environments, including traditional and digital printmaking, moving image suites, and 3D studios. Led by Hugh Harwood and a team of experienced professional designers, including Slawa Harasymowicz and Vida Vega, the program offers a range of learning opportunities, including lectures, project briefs, workshops, written assignments, group critiques, and individual tutorials.
