Bachelor of Science - Computer Science

Take a passion for technology to the next level with a computer science degree from University of West Florida. Students develop skills in algorithmic programming and software engineering to solve computing problems, individually and in teams, within a global context.

The program will strengthen student's analytical ability, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students will enjoy the personal attention of the faculty members and have opportunities to engage in paid faculty research.

The active student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery will help to advance student's technical skills while they socialize with like-minded students. 

University of West Florida is ABET accredited, assuring the program has met quality standards essential in preparing graduates to enter critical STEM fields in the global workforce.

Students will develop strong programming and software development skills and learn how to build efficient algorithms to solve complex problems. Students will use modern software development tools and apply state-of-the art software engineering practices to develop and maintain software.

The degree includes the theoretical foundations of computer science in the study of algorithms, data structures, computer architecture, programming languages and net-centric computing. Students will develop a foundation that allows and encourages learning new and relevant skills and technologies as the field evolves.

Students have the opportunity to work on faculty research. Several of the students are working on NSF-funded research grants. Others have published research in data analytics, software engineering, computer and network security, Internet of Things, smart home, big data, human factors and education.
